Cubs Win 1908 - 2016 Chicago Wins 8-7

Hey Folks I am from Chicago. Grew up there. My Mom watched on WGN and listened to Harry Caray and Jack Brickhouse call the games til her death in 1992. She always was rooting for the Cubbies. She never saw the Cubs win. She is smiling in Heaven now.  Grew up playing tennis against a wall. Took a longtime to have any success in tennis. Always watched the Cubs on WGN tv Channel 9. They finally Won it! Wow. It was Close. Cleveland gave a good show. Cleveland was the longest team in any sport to go without a championship with the exception of one team. The Cubs.  Took a long time to lift the curse of the Cubs. Mr. Epstein did it for Boston and now the Cubbies. 1908 is over one hundred years ago. 108 years to be exact. Guess what, There are a108 stitches on a baseball. There is something spiritual about sports.  There is something spiritual about this Championship. We Americans can take a hint from this. We can overcome adversity, odds against us, bad luck, and just problems. The Cubs won. The odds in Vegas I think if you had bet on them to win the World Series was over 1000 to 1. Crazy huh? Probably the same for Cleveland. Just wanted to say Go Cubs! Go America! Go Americans! This ought to give us hope for everyone that we can succeed in and on this planet even though the odds are against us. God Bless us......Coach Sherwin Anderson

Wawrinka upsets Novak Djokovic in U.S. Open final 2016 Kerber No. 1

NEW YORK — Stan Wawrinka had played twice the amount of tennis at this U.S. Open as world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, but Sunday evening in the final inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, that only seemed to help.
Wawrinka, the No. 3 seed, swiss journeyman wowed the crowd in a fantastic display of power tennis and physical force, beating Djokovic with his one-handed backhand in a 6-7(1), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 victory.
It is the Swiss 31-year-old’s third Grand Slam title in three major final appearances, adding to the trophy shelf  at the 2014 Australian Open and 2015 French Open, the latter in which he also beat Djokovic in a four-set final.
“We have known each other for many, many years,” Wawrinka said on court. “Because of you I am the player I am today. Djokovic looked surprised in his play with Wawrinka.
“This is honestly amazing. I came here without expecting, without having the goal to win the match. I have played quite a bit of tennis these two weeks; I’m pretty empty. There was so much emotion. This is something that I never had before.” Said Wawrinka.
Djokovic did not have to work as hard. As He was on court for just under nine hours in total, half of the 17 hours and 50 minutes Wawrinka had played.
Djokovic failed to defend his U.S. Open title, with Roger Federer being the last player to have done so, winning five in a row from 2004 to 2008. Interesting a Swiss Man stopped Djokovic and on the Womans side Kerber , German, became No. 1. and making it more definately difficult for Serena Williams to beat Steffi Graf’s (German) record.
The wear from six hard matches showed on the Swiss player to start the match, Djokovic racing to a 5-2 lead and having two set points on Wawrinka’s serve in the 32nd minute. But Wawrinka would save both of those, hold and then break for 4-5 when Djokovic threw in his first double fault of the match. Oh boy. Not good for the Joker. Quite the Fight.
They battled to a tiebreak, where Djokovic jumped to a 2-0 in the Tiebreaker and lead when they engaged in what was perhaps the point of the tournament, a long exchange in which Djokovic chased down two apparent Wawrinka winners, only for Wawrinka to end the point on an amazing only on tv worthy forehand volley. The Crowd roared with approval and Wawrinka thrust his arms up, but that would be the lone point he would win in the break, Djokovic playing clean, aggressive tennis as the errors that Wawrinka started the match with crept back into his game.
Wawrinka wouldn’t go down by two sets, however, jumping to a 4-1 lead in the second and then — after Djokovic had evened things at 4-4 — held for 5-4 and broke Djokovic once again when he pushed a forehand groundstroke wide, the two in a dead heat at the one-hour, 45-minute mark.
In the third set Wawrinka would take a break lead only to relent again, but held at 5-all and then broke in fantastic fashion from 30-love down.

The match saw a shocking turn of events, Djokovic appearing to cramp at the beginning of the fourth set, going down 3-0 as he was barely able to move. The crowd inside going quiet, then trying to will him on, wanting to see a fight, as he struggled point by point.
Djokovic Surprised!

It was then that Djokovic called for the trainer, complaining about a toe issue. Wawrinka argued that he could only call for medical treatment during a change over, but officials allowed the break, Djokovic having a toe on his right foot taped in a six-minute delay.
At one point, Djokovic looked over to Wawrinka and said, “Stan, sorry man. Can't Stand.”
John McEnroe spoke on the ESPN broadcast: “I’m not buying this,” claiming that the medical break was for rest from the cramping, and not for his toe.
It was an 11th consecutive win in a championship match for Wawrinka, dating to 2014, when he started working with former world No. 2 Magnus Norman. He had been 4-9 in finals from 2005 to 2013.

Wawrinka 31 years old became the first player to come from match point down to win the U.S. Open since Djokovic himself did so in 2011, being two match points down to Federer in the semifinals. The win also makes him the oldest U.S. Open champ since Ken Rosewall in 1970, who was 35.
The late-career success of Wawrinka has interrupted an otherwise Big Four-dominated men’s tour. Djokovic, Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray have won 42 of 47 majors since the 2005 French Open, though three of those five now belong to Wawrinka.

Wawrinka, whose battle sign is an index finger pointed at his head, showing the mental strength that he has built up with Norman. He is a fighter whose time has come………………

“He’s been able to be able to produce some amazing tennis in the finals,” Norman said earlier in the tournament. “He surprised me for sure the way that he handled himself in his first Grand Slam final in Melbourne. I know how emotional it can be and how nervous I was feeling.” Nice Suprise in New York. A Great Player!

Olympic Gold for Puerto Rico Monica Puig: First Gold Medal for Puerto Rico!

Monica Puig wins the First Gold Medal Ever for Puerto Rico!

Monica said:

"I"m speechless," a smiling Puig said after her historic win. "I wanted it so bad."

"I never imagined in my wildest dreams that this would happen," Puig added — "her experience in Rio de Janeiro has been like a dream. She's looking forward to waking up tomorrow morning and seeing her gold medal sitting on her bedside table." Pretty heady stuff for someone and a country new to this sort of thing!

As for her plans after the Olympics, Puig said, "I know my life is going to change a bit." But she said some things won't — because, she added, "I love what I do."

Puig won in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Olympic Tennis Center, with her more dramatic points leading fans to shout "Si se puede" and wave the flag of Puerto Rico. More than once, the chair umpire went from requesting silence to simply shushing the audience.

Puerto Rico has had athletes in the Olympics since 1948; before today, Team Puerto Rico had amassed eight Olympic medals — none of them gold. Final Score was close in the first 2 sets, 6-4, 4-6, and Monica blew it out in the last set 6-1 to win the gold. This is pretty amazing stuff for the Number 34 playing Angelique Kerber (Silver) the No. 2. Petra Kvitová (14) of the Czech Republic won the Bronze.  Again the weather was a factor for all the participants in this 2016 Summer Olympics in  Rio de Janeiro.  Following another great tennis player from Puerto Rican who played and was a citizen of the United States who also earned two Gold medals named Gigi Fernandez in 1992 and 1996. Gigi was Number 1 in the World in 1991. She visited this No. 1 on the WTA (Woman's Tennis Association) rankings spot til 1995. Now its Monica Puig's Turn. Lets keep it going.  Go Monica!

On the Mens Side: In Doubles, Gold medal match Gold Spain M. López and R. Nadal Silver Romania F. Mergea and H. Tecău Bronze medal match was won by United States J. Sock and S. Johnson.

In Men's Singles Today Sunday August 14th, 2016 The Gold medal match 2:00 PM Juan Martín del Potro from Argentina vs. Andy Murray Great Britain. The Bronze medal match Today At 12:30 PM today Rafael Nadal Spain vs. Kei Nishikori Japan. Good Luck Gentleman.

Thanks for reading Folks. Great tennis in 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Going for Tennis Gold - A Puerto Rican Journey

Every Olympic Hopeful wants to win the Gold. On Day 7, Yesterday, Aug. 12, 2016 Monica Puig of Puerto Rico, leaps in the air after defeating Petra Kvitova, of the Czech Republic, during their semi-final round match at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Friday, Monica said, "This Olympics isn't about me," the 34th-ranked Puig said. "It's about Puerto Rico, and I know how bad they want this."

Monica Puig will definately get a Silver but she has a definate chance at the Gold! Amazing for a little country like Puerto Rico. Most Americans are fans of Puerto Rico for different reasons. I myself am friends with a native and she is really excited by the prospect of their first Gold Medal. In their history at the Games they have won 9 medals and only two Silver Medals, One in Boxing (1984), and another in Wrestling in (2012). They have never earned a Gold medal! It is a great achievement for this Country of only 3.5 Million Inhabitants.

Monica will Play Angelique Kerber of Germany. Their record: Kerber leads Puig, 2-0 in their head-to-head with wins in Brisbane (3-6 6-4 7-6(7), 2013) and Toronto (6-2 6-3, 2015) in recent history but Puig is playing with real enthusiasm, and a sense of fearlessness. I applaud her and Angelique in this Womans Final!

On the Mens' Side, Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez of Spain won the Olympic men’s doubles tennis title, beating Romania’s Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau to secure their country’s third gold medal of the Rio Games.

Andy Murray played Kei Nishikori .The Scot, 29, won 6-1 6-4 against Nishikori in the semifinal. Good match but the athletes in all the events have had a real battle with the heat and humidity. The reason most players come and go to South Florida to train in tennis. If they can play here they can play anywhere.  On the other side Rafa is playing Juan Martin Del Portro. They are playing for the semi's at the same time the Women are playing for Gold!

The Woman's Doubles, Both Czech Teams,  are playing right now for the Bronze. and the winner of this match will meet The Swiss Miss Martina Hingis and her Swiss partner for the Gold. Switzerland T. Bacsinszky and M. Hingis  beat. Czech Republic L. Hradecká and A. Hlaváčková  2-1. A lot of Czech in the Womans Doubles. Exciting to know Switzerland has overcome one advance of the Czech invasion.

Enjoy the Olympics and Keep your "Off" at the Ready. Thanks for reading....Coach Sherwin Anderson

Fairy-Tale Wimbledon Style! Wimbledon 2016 some return of serves are just This meant for the trash. Nike Dresses in the Way!

Wimbledon has been interesting this year. Marcus Willis had a brief encounter with fame and a bit of a Fairy-tale. Willis was and is  from Slough, England. He was living with his parents. He met a girl, dentist named Jennifer Bate from Warwickshire.

Willis was about to give up tennis. In the least he was moving here to the United States and going to coach tennis here. Jennifer encouraged him to keep on and he took the months that they had been together to get ready for Wimbledon. He got the last wild card spot to get in for the tournament. No one ranked over 700 gets in to Wimbledon. Willis worked hard and made it. He won the first round against Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis on No 17 Court  ranked 54 in the world.  Willis beat him in straight sets.

Willis played Roger Federer yesterday. Roger beat Willis in straight sets but Willis got 3 games off the top ranked player in the second set.

Marcus Willis

Fed and Willis wearing the same stuff. Good stuff. Good match.
June 29th, 2016

No. 1 Ranked Novak Djokovich beat Adrien Mannarino in straight sets but The Joker did not like his serve and put it where it belonged:

Some Service Returns belong : In the Trash!

On the Womens' side The Dresses are getting in the way. The Women are upset as the Nike Dresses are a hot mess. They are floating up and hindering play, They are hot and needing to be altered. No fun. Wardrobe malfunction.

The Woman are battling it out. Lets hope the dress does not get in the way....

French Open 2016 Womens and Mens Finals

June 5th, 2016

Roland Garros ie French Open 2016
Garbine Muguruza upset Serena Williams 7-5 6-4 on Saturday to win the first grand slam of her career, while also depriving the American of tying Steffi Graf's Open Era record of 22 majors. Serena has been trying to tie Andre Agassi's Wife and mother of two children for the last year. It may still be tied or beaten but the record is a daunting one. Garbine won with a surprise lob.

https://twitter.com/BuzzFeedNews/status/739118622296117248

Ms. Muguruza from Spain was as surprised as Serena. The battles on the Womens' and Mens' side is a test of wills. A great deal of Patience is needed as the red Clay slows the ball down. 115th edition of the French has 2 million for the Women's and Men's first place singles and 1 million for Runner up.

On the Men's side it was Andy Murray playing Novak Djokovich. Andy has had a tough go as he has had many long matches during the Open. The weather has been kind to him. Allowing him to rest a bit. Mr. Murray has been playing his best tennis at Roland Garros aka The French Open.

Andy Murray's defeat was anti-climatic. He gave a great showing. Want to congratulate the men for the great effort and 4 sets. Unfortunately Mr. Murrays effort did not tabulate into a win. Pic from Today:

The Mixed Doubles and Doubles matches at the French were very exciting as well. Veteran Indian tennis star Leander Paes completed a 'Career Slam' in mixed doubles with Swiss partner Martina Hingis with a hard-fought win over compatriot Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig , on Friday. The unseeded Indo-Swiss pair eked out a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over the second seeds in the summit clash that lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

Leander Paes and Martina Hingis French 2016

On the Mens Doubles, Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez became the first all-Spanish team since Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez (1990) to win the Roland Garros doubles title after downing Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 on Saturday. It was a good French for the Spanierds.

Women's Doubles consisted of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic gave the Paris crowd a home victory to cheer as they won the women's doubles title at the French Open. The French duo, seeded seventh, beat Russian fifth seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 6-3 2-6 6-4. A real win for the French. Good Job Ladies! Pleasing for all the french fans....

Today had a great doubles clinic in Lake Clarke Shores Fl. We had a great deal of effort as the weather has turned hot here in South Florida. Thanks for Reading, Coach Anderson

Delray Open 2016 Juan Martin Del Potro Return

Well DelPotro's debut after 16 months and 2 surgeries has won the first game against Denis Kudla  Usa ranked 65 in the world. They both look fit. DelPotro's comment on twitter when asked about it, he said he wants to finish the match! Great to see him playing again! He has been hitting very penetrating shots and his wrist / arm seems to be holding up. We are in the 2nd set Juan has won the first Set 6-1. Both players mix up their shots, hitting alternatively slice and topspin. Juan's 1st serve is coming at over 120 mph. It is 3-2 in the second set. 30-30. Now 4-2. DelPotro won this round against Kudra, 6-1, 6-4. Juan Martin DelPotro is back. Juan could win this tournament. A small video below say it all in regard to Juan, Team USA has won against Team International. Go USA...

Australian Open Wrap up

2016 Wrap up for the Australian Open. Upcoming Delray Beach Open!

A couple of thoughts: One is Djokovich is a machine. Even when playing badly he still manages to win. Even when he has 5 setters he finds the ability to win. It is a most astounding feat to have a guy who for all intensive purposes was not going to crack the top 5 and then to stay in the top five for quite some time now is quite impressive. There really are no rivals right now for him. Federer and Murray are playing outstanding tennis cannot seem to have what it takes to beat the Joker, Djokovich won Against Murray 6-1 7-5 7-6(3) . His wins are truly good tennis. I hate to say this about any player but he is a step above the field right now.

On the Women's side, Serena (1) is having trouble. She is undoubtably the best player in Woman's Tennis right now but it seems she is having a bit of the case of nerves. She says this does come into the equation but all athletes feel the effect of the pressure, rank, and just time. Serena ought to have won against German seventh seed Angelique Kerber.   Kerber won against Serena 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Truly a remarkable endeavor as Serena Williams was the favorite. No one expected Angelique to win. Kerber's idol was Steffi Graf who is still holding the title to the most Grand Slams. My prediction is Serena will surpass Steffis' accomplishment,  if and only if  Serena can stay healthy mentally and physically. It is lonely at the Top.

The Doubles were quite interesting. In the Womens' Doubles  India’s Sania Mirza and Switzerland’s Martina Hingis won at the Aussie Open in hot blooded form against Andrea Hlavackova, Lucie Hradecka  7-6, 6-3. Interesting the two Martinas have both made amazing comebacks. First comeback was Martina Navratilova  in doubles in her 40's and gave a lot of inspiration to women all over the world that life is not over after 40. And Now the Swiss Miss Martina Hingis who had a great singles career but it ended just after the Williams sisters came on the scene and now with the recent amazing run in doubles. Hingis is now just eight matches away from equaling the all-time record of 44 set wins in a row by Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova in 1990. On the Men's side, The Bryan Brothers have not been doing as well as they have in the past, They lost to Raven Klaasen (RSA) [13] Rajeev Ram (USA) [13] 6-3,  3-6,  and  4-6.

Jamie Murray Great Britain and Bruno Soares Brazil Winner Mens Doubles

These guys lost to the eventual winners Jamie Murray (GBR) [7]
Bruno Soares (BRA) [7]. The Winners Jamie Murray (GBR) [7] Bruno
Soares (BRA) [7] played against Daniel Nestor (CAN) Radek
Stepanek (CZE) in a close match 2-6,  6-4, 7-5. A great win for No.
7th ranked Jamie Murray and Bruno Soures. Doubles is great because
players from different countries can play together. In Mixed, the
final E. Vesnina(RUS) [5] / B. Soares(BRA) [5] defeated C. Vandeweghe(USA) / H. Tecau(ROU) 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 in the tie breaker. Romanian Horia played well as did American Coco. Really great to see some close and exciting Doubles this year at The Australian Open.

The Bryan Brothers are expected to be at the Delray Beach Open. Delray Beach Open starts on February 12th  and going through 21st. Ought to be a fun, varied, and exciting event. Check out yellowtennisball.com for more info. Volunteer positions have been filled. Thanks for reading!
